Love it or hate it, “Star Wars” is one of the biggest movie franchises ever created. It’s no surprise that fans stretch from the other end of the world all the way to Winthrop University. For many of those fans at Winthrop, May 19 will be a day of fulfillment and also sadness. On that day, the saga will be complete as the final chapter in the “Star Wars” universe hits theaters.
While all “Star Wars” fans are eagerly anticipating the conclusion of their favorite films, there is a certain feeling of unwanted closure shrouding all that await. Tickets have been on sale since March and you can bet that some fans have already paid the price of admission.
According to Thehollywoodnews.com, tickets have been on sale (in some areas) since March 24 for the eagerly-awaited “Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.” It won’t be long now until crowds start lining up at their town’s theaters in order to purchase tickets. Manchester Cinemas in Rock Hill plans to offer tickets two weeks in advance of the May 19 release date.
With so many fans worldwide, it’s no surprise that Winthrop is home to its own subculture of fans.
“I’m more than ready and I can’t wait to see what happens so that it answers a lot of questions,” Lacey Howard said.
The sophomore graphic design major admits to being a Star Wars convert; her boyfriend is the real reason she got turned on to the films.
“I admit to never watching the films until we started dating but after I saw the first one I was hooked,” Howard said. She also admitted that she was sad to see an end to the movies.
Howard is not the only anxious Winthrop student though. Frank Stewart said he’s “very excited about ‘Episode III.’” Although Stewart, a junior integrated marketing communication major, said he wasn’t much of a fan of “Episode I” or “Episode II,” the final movie has him much more intrigued. Stewart said that he had already checked to see when Manchester Cinemas plans to start selling advanced tickets With so much excitement surrounding the release, the latest and final “Star Wars” film may have very good reason to claim the title of highest grossing film of the summer and even the year. Until then, fans will have to live with the teaser trailers that George Lucas continues to release in theaters and on television in order to satisfy their “Jabba the Hutt”-sized appetites.
