12/23 Harassment

A victim came to the Winthrop police to report continuing harassment for over a year by her ex-boyfriend. The victim stated that she has told the suspect to leave her alone various times and that her father has also told the suspect the same thing. The victim went on to say that she has recently changed her cell phone number and switched residence rooms but she is still getting text messages from the guy.

The victim also stated that friends have told her that the suspect has been seen hanging around the Courtyard and inquiring about the location of victim's new room. The victim was advised to keep a log of phone calls and any other instances of contact with the suspect.



Eden Terrace (The Shack)
1/18 Damage to property

An officer was dispatched to meet complainant at Dinkins Student Center regarding a slashed video screen. When the reporting officer arrived the complainant reported that the replacement screen installed at the Shack on Jan. 4 had been cut.

The complainant checked the incident location on Jan 18 and found it in order. She added that two functions were held in the facility: a birthday party on Jan. 20 and a sorority program on Jan. 22. In both instances, group representatives noted the damaged screen and reported it accordingly. Specifically the host of the Jan. 20 party notified a member of the office of public events at 6 p.m. that same day. A sorority member informed complainant about the damage on Jan. 23. The complainant went on to say she received an uncorroborated report that a set up crew member noticed the damage at approximately 3 p.m. on Jan. 19 while he was preparing the facility for the aforementioned birthday party.

The reporting officer inspected the incident location and photographed the screen. Inspection of the building disclosed no signs of forced entry or potential items of evidentiary value. There was a long irregular slash running horizontally across the screen in the bottom edge. The screen was valued at $136.


Senior Circle (Phelps Residence Hall)
1/20 Petty larceny

A woman told police that on Jan. 20 a student took a yellow M & M Nascar racing jacket from her closet. The victim said that prior to the incident the subject would come by and visit her everyday. A witness said she made contact with the subject in regards to said jacket. The subject admitted to the witness that she took the jacket but said she would bring it back.
