If you're tired of the same old dinner and movie routine for Valentine's Day, this year, treat you and your sweetheart to something more unique.
Wednesday evening, The Neighborhood Theatre in the NoDa Arts district of Charlotte, N.C., will host "The Anti-Massacre Valentine's Day Masquerade" in hopes of showcasing a Valentine's Day celebration that will aim to go beyond the "mushy card company version of romance" with live music celebrating loving everyone (your sweetheart, family, friends, dog or even your MySpace page).
The evening will consist of music from local Charlotte acts as well as New York City artist, Breaking Laces. Charlotte acts include Incognito Mosquito, Poprocket and The New Familiars. Solo performances will be performed by Ian Thomas, Heidi Sidelinker and Colin Allured.
Bringing a funky beat and experimental sound to the stage, Charlotte based Incognito Mosquito will be among the performers on Valentine's Day. With two new albums soon to be released Incognito Mosquito members include Ansley Wynn (guitar, vocals), Chad Thompson (bass, vocals), Matt Gasky (guitar) and William Stone (drums, percussion).
Poprocket, a self-described indie/rock/alternative band from Charlotte, N.C., will be among the many artists performing during the event. Members of Poprocket include Jay Garrigan (vocals, guitar), Shawn Lynch (drums) and Joe Kuhlman (bass) who combine to form a blend of alternative indie rock that is influenced by such legendary bands as The Beatles and Queen.
Guests who attend "The Anti-Massacre Valentine's Day Masquerade" are asked to wear their best Lone Ranger or Mardi Gras type masks to make the night more interesting. Tickets cost $8 when pre-ordered online $10 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin 8 p.m
