The Eagles lost their first home contest of the season Friday afternoon as senior pitcher Jonathan Settle gave up three runs on three hits in the top of the ninth inning as the Eagles fell to the Redhawks 6-5.

Winthrop got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as senior shortstop Chris Carrara singled to lead off the inning. Sophomore second baseman Phil Carey followed with another single. After both moved up a base on a sacrifice, senior center fielder Tommy Lentz singled to center to score both runs.

The Eagles added a third run in the bottom of the second as sophomore first baseman Eddie Tisdale got on after being hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a passed ball to put the Eagles up 3-0.

Miami got one run back in the top of the fifth and tied the game in the top of the sixth as they scored two runs on two runs on four hits.

The Eagles regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth as junior outfielder Billy Froelich, after starting the inning with a double, scored on a wild pitch to put the Eagles up 4-3. Winthrop added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh to go up 5-3.

In the top of the ninth, Settle was hurt by a throwing error, but had two outs and the bases loaded, but couldn't close the door. All three Redhawk runs came with two outs and they defeated the Eagles 6-5.

Sophomore pitcher Alex Wilson is still without a decision on the year as he pitched 5.0 innings, giving up two hits and one earned run, but got a no decision in his fourth start of the year.
