"Here We Go!" is a half-hour production that focuses on young adults and decision-making. In each episode, the main character faces a tough scenario, makes a bad decision, learns from an educational segment about smart choices and has a second chance to get things right.
Already Winthrop student have answered the call for help by providing their talent.
The program's first episode, entitled "Scholarship Scam," features theatre major Meagan Douglas as the main character (who doubles as script writer for this particular episode) and sophomore theatre major Darcy Golka as the inquisitive reporter who consults the professionals.
A few more of Winthrop's students, particularly theater majors, have volunteered their time to the project as well. Many can be seen in the opening sequence walking toward a camera and shouting the show's title before opening credits.
Russell Luke, theatre and dance professor, said that the students who participated are talented and very committed to acting.
He gave special praise to theatre major Danielle Reid, who will be graduating this spring.
Executive producer Travis Glasper also commented on the professional work ethic of student actors and script writers from Winthrop. Being surrounded by smart and talented young people, he said, has helped him to gain wisdom.
The program was created after Glasper, 25, survived a fatal trucking accident only weeks after his 21st birthday. He suffered a fractured hip, a crushed femur and months of therapy.
While recovering physically, the 21-year-old began making lifestyle changes as well. Reflecting on his life, he said, made him realize that he had wasted a large part of it doing nothing to improve his future.
Together with Bean Street Productions and a number of writers, advisors and volunteers, Glasper raised funds and began working on the television program to educate young adults about making the right decisions early.
"I think the show has a great shot at being successful," Glasper said, following the taping of the first episode. "It's written for young adults, by young adults so it caters to a certain age group and is really helpful."
The program has recently received endorsements from Congressman John Spratt and Rock Hill superintendent Lynn Moody.
Glasper said that future episodes may soon be taped in local classrooms. For more information about the program, visit the official Web site at HereWeGoTV.com, or call Travis Glasper at 803-230-5483.
