The baseball team is ready to dive into the 2008 season with a brand new attitude and an upgraded stadium. According to head coach Joe Hudak, the stadium has to be the best stadium in the country.
All-in-all, it is a $6 million facility. The upgrade includes indoor batting cages, training room, equipment room, mud room, press room and numerous other features.
This year marked the first of three years that the press conference has not been held in the press box.
In addition, an important part of the stadium is the 85 foot high sun screen; this enables the games to start at 6 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.
The Big South baseball season will begin Friday, Feb. 22. However, not a lot of confidence has been instilled in the team from the general public. The baseball team was predicted to finish fourth out of eight places in the 2008 Big South Conference standings, according to the pre-season poll.
With only six starters returning and an unsure pitching staff, Coach Hudak has a lot of confidence in his team.
"Nobody is feeling sorry for us and we don't want them to. We want to prove them wrong," Hudak said.
Despite the negativity and lack of assurance from the general public, the baseball team is ready to take on their 2008 schedule, which is said to be the toughest schedule the team has played. The first conference meeting is set for the weekend of March 21.
