Angie Edwards is the newest addition to the international center. After three years working at Colorado College, Edwards moved to the Charlotte area. She will be working as the assistant director and coordinator of international education.

"It seemed like a really great opportunity to work with study abroad students," Edwards said.

Students looking for study-abroad opportunities can find Edwards in the international center, Tillman 206.
Edwards recently chatted with The Johnsonian:

What part of your job are you looking forward to the most?

I'm looking forward most to helping students find opportunities to go overseas and incorporating that into the college experience. There are a lot of opportunities for students to take advantage of. I want to hear about all the life-changing experiences.

Where have you traveled?

Most of my travel and living experience have been in Western Europe. The only place I haven't been is Spain. I spent a year living in Germany. I also spent about a month in Cork, Ireland, when I was in graduate school. I had an internship with the student union at University College Cork. I've been to Australia as well. I have a long list of places I still want to get to. Greece is at the top of my list as well as China. I would also love to go somewhere in Africa.

Of all the places you've traveled, which is your favorite?

My absolute favorite place is a little town in the Swiss Alps called Gimmelwald. It's an absolutely beautiful place where there's nothing to do really, except hike.
Why should students study abroad?
First of all, I think study abroad is undoubtedly a life-changing experience. To not only study, but to live in another country and to get yourself out of your comfort zone gives you a new perspective. You'll meet people that will be your friends for the rest of your life. College is the best time to take advantage of it. It is affordable. Winthrop is really working hard to make study abroad affordable and accessible to all students. Even if you've never left Rock Hill or the state of South Carolina, you can study abroad.

By the same token, if you're a world traveler, there's always some place you've never been to or a culture you can explore more deeply. We can help you find a great and new opportunity. It's an opportunity that's really only available to you in college. It compliments the whole college experience. It helps you develop as an individual and discover who you are and what you believe.
