The Men's and Women's basketball teams have released their official schedules, revealing a tough year for both. Many competitive schools have made their way onto the agenda, including teams from the ACC, SEC and Southern Conferences.
The women's team is coming off of their most successful season as a division one team. A total of 29 games makes up this year's schedule, 15 of which are at home.
Winthrop begins with a home stand in the Hilton Garden Inn Classic, with games against Davidson and either Ole Miss or North Carolina A&T.
The Women will then travel to Clemson to face the ACC competing Tigers.
The Eagles also take on another ACC opponent, Georgia Tech, when they travel to the Bahamas.
They begin Big South play on January third with an away game at Presbyterian.
They will bring it back home however for the next five games, four of which are Big South games.
After the Home stint, seven of the last 12 games are played on the road. During this stretch all but one are Big South games.
The season wraps up with a visit to High Point for the Big South Tournament. Last year the Eagles fell in the semi-finals in this tournament.
Like the women, the men have some very noteworthy teams on their agenda.
The team will also be heading to its second consecutive Metro PCS Orange Bowl Classic and its fourth consecutive ESPN Bracket Buster.
Noteworthy games are throughout the entire season, many of them on the road.
Major games start with a game at South Carolina.
Also during this road trip they will face the likes of Akron, Davidson and NC State.
During the Orange Bowl Classic, the Eagles will also take on the two time National Champion Florida Gators. This tournament was good to Winthrop last year as they defeated the 19th ranked Miami Hurricanes.
Winthrop brings the Bracket Buster home this year, but the other teams have not yet been announced.
Other key home games include a College of Charleston game, breaking 18 years of no play between the two schools, and an East Carolina game in late November.
The Eagles have finished 48-4 at home over the past four years, and these schools will definitely bring a new challenge.
Overall, the Eagles will play 13 home games with 16 away games, with the largest road trip being for four games.
Both teams play a total of 28 home games this year, while being on the road for 30.
Ending last year the way both teams did may add even more pressure to this year's teams.
