The Johnsonian sat down with representatives from the College Democrats and the College Republicans for a discussion about election issues.
Janelle Dunlap, interim president of the College Democrats; Joanna Bryant, interim vice president of the College Democrats; Megan Revels, secretary for the College Democrats and Eddie Scarry, president of the College Republicans, joined in on the discussion.
The Socialist Student Union was invited but did not attend.
This week the discussion was on the topic of the vice presidential picks.
More of the discussion will be released in the coming weeks.

Are you enthusiastic about the election?

Joanna: I'm a lot more excited now that it's election season and not all the drama of the primaries. Now that we have a candidate and we're all united, it's a lot better.
Eddie: My enthusiasm died for a little bit, but it's getting back up there as we start seeing more debates and stuff happening with the general election.

What do you think of Sen. John McCain's choice of Gov. Sarah Palin for his running mate?

Janelle: It feels like a bad skit from Saturday Night Live.
Joanna: I think she is amusing as a candidate choice. I think that McCain has shot himself in the foot with the choice of her because I think he thought that if he put a woman in that spot all the Clinton fans would say "Hey it's a woman. Let's vote for her."
And I don't think America's women are that stupid. And I think that she's one of the worst things to happen to feminism.
Eddie: I don't know what she meant by calling her an SNL skit, but what she says about working against feminism, I'm surprised to hear a Democrat say that. She's got five children and she's working and that's what you guys are supposed to be for.
I suppose if she had had an abortion you'd be celebrating then.
I think that she's a great choice. She's the only one with executive experience of any of the candidates.
A lot of times you hear about the experience issue when she has more experience than the guy that's in the number one spot on the Democratic ticket, and they're complaining about it. I just think it's a little bit odd.
