Winthrop is a campus of successful athletic teams, but some students would rather play than watch.
Sure, students can go cheer and yell as loud as they want at soccer games or participate in halftime activities at basketball games, but this isn't enough for some.
Byrnes Gregory, Sophomore flag football player, likes to watch Winthrop in action, but also wants to showcase his athleticism, he said.
"Out here you actually get to play," he said. "You get to watch too."
To some intramurals provide a way to continue their love for the game from high school.
Junior flag football player Andrea Carrigan said, "I've always played sports, and this is a way to do it now."
Intramurals may not be as popular as the major teams on campus, but that doesn't mean students don't take it as seriously.
"Even though it's intramurals, we're still serious," Carrigan said.
